چکیده

In the present paper, a numerical method has been demonstrated which works on an overall NewtonRaphson type algorithm and is capable of solving the “inverse” problem for turbulent, fullydeveloped, pulsating pipe flows, where the mass flow rate, rather than the pressure gradient is prescribed as a periodic function of time. The momentum equation, governing the transient, fullydeveloped pulsating flow of an incompressible fluid through a circular duct has been considered. Turbulence has been addressed by employing the low Reynolds number ! " k model. From the numerical solutions, the ratio of amplitudes of the mass flow rate and the pressure gradient signals along with their phase difference have been presented as functions of dimensionless pulsating frequency in the form of a signature map. The results of preliminary experiments have also been presented for comparison. Further, the results for low frequency pulsations have also been obtained using the Blasius equation for friction factor and are found to compare well both with the experiments and the numerical results.

Heat Transfer under Double Turbulent Pulsating Jets Impinging on a Flat Surface

In this study, the numerical analysis of turbulent flow and heat transfer of double pulsating impinging jets on a flat surface has been investigated. The unsteady two-dimensional numerical solution for two similar and dissimilar jets was performed using the RNG k-ε model. The results showed that the RNG k-ε model has more satisfactory predictions of the Nusselt number distribution. Comparisons ...

Forced Convection Heat Transfer of Non-Newtonian Fluids Through Circular Ducts

The Galerkin finite element method is used to solve the three dimensional continuity, momentum and energy equations for laminar Newtonian and power-law model non-Newtonian flow through horizontal circular tube. The governing equations are non-dimensionalized with respect to specific variables and converted into algebraic equations using appropriate elements. To accelerate convergence a combinat...

Vortices in turbulent curved pipe flow- rocking, rolling and pulsating motions

This thesis is motivated by the necessity to understand the flow structure of turbulent flows in bends encountered in many technical applications such as heat exchangers, nuclear reactors and internal combustion engines. Flows in bends are characterised by strong secondary motions in terms of counter-rotating vortices (Dean cells) set up by a centrifugal instability. Specifically the thesis dea...

A model for stratified gas-liquid turbulent flow in ducts of arbitrary cross-section

2014 We propose a theory to calculate the pressure gradient and the liquid fraction in two-phase gasliquid fully developed stratified flow in a cylindrical duct of arbitrary cross-section and slope and its application to near horizontal ducts. Its validity is limited to Reynolds numbers high enough to ensure turbulent flow in both phases. Droplet entrainment or bubble inclusion have not been ta...

Numerical analysis of heat transfer in pulsating turbulent flow in a pipe

Convection heat transfer in pulsating turbulent flow with large velocity oscillating amplitudes in a pipe at constant wall temperature is numerically studied. A low-Reynolds-number (LRN) k–e turbulent model is used in the turbulence modeling. The model analysis indicates that Womersley number is a very important parameter in the study of pulsating flow and heat transfer. Flow and heat transfer ...
